In 1997, he was awarded a Marie Curie fellowship from the European Commission to work at the Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung, Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany. In May 1998, he became Assistant Professor at the University of Twente, The Netherlands, and Associate Professor in March 2003. Since January 2005, he is Program Director “Nanofabrication” at the MESA+ Institute for Nanotechnology, leading a joint research program between six research groups ranging from chemistry to physics to microengineering. Furthermore, he is Flagship Captain “Nanofabrication” in the national nanotechnology program NanoNed, coordinating a group of about 10 academic groups and Philips Research. He has been appointed Full Professor “Molecular Nanofabrication” at the University of Twente, The Netherlands, in September 2005. Present research interests encompass: supramolecular chemistry at interfaces, multivalency, bottom-up nanofabrication, nanolithography, and the integration of top-down and bottom-up nanofabrication techniques.
