Director General of the Russian Corporation on Nanotechnologies, appointed by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation of September 7, 2007.
Born in Leningrad on June 21, 1961, L.Melamed began his career in 1980 as a mechanic-assembly worker of "October" Production Association in Kamensk-Uralskiy. In 1980-1983 he did the compulsory military service in the Armed Forces of the Soviet Union. In 1987 L. Melamed graduated with a degree in Radio Engineering from the Novosibirsk Electro-Technical Institute (NETI). From 1987 to 1992 he combined the positions of a junior research associate of the Special Design Bureau of the Radio-Engineering Faculty of NETI with that of Rector’s Assistant responsible for commercial matters. Between 1992-1998 L. Melamed created and headed a number of commercial enterprises and held the position of the Deputy Chairman of the Board of an OJSC "Novosibirskenergo". In 1996 he earned a Ph.D. degree in Economics.
From October 1998 to January 2000 L.Melamed served as Director General of the Russian State Concern for the Production of Electrical and Thermal Energy at Nuclear Power Plants ("Rosenergoatom"). From January 2000 to June 2004 – as the First Deputy Chairman of the Board of "RAO UES" (The Unified Energy System). From June 2004 to September 2007 L.Melamed was the President of "Alemar" Investment Financial Corporation. He is married, and has three children.
