Vice Head, Laboratory for Mechanics of Materials and Nanostructures, Empa Switzerland |
Ivo Utke is the vice head of the Laboratory for Mechanics of Materials and Nanostructures at the Swiss Federal Institute of Materials Testing and Research (EMPA). He got his PhD back in 1995 at Berlin (Humboldt University) and went then to Lausanne (EPFL) where he investigated fundamental processes in epitaxy of semiconductors and oxides.
Since several years he is active in the fields of local gas assisted focused electron and ion beam deposition and etching and SEM based nanomanipulation. Recently, in 2008, he wrote an 80 pages invited review about this field and was main organizer of the 2nd international workshop on Focused Electron Beam Induced Processing at Thun, Switzerland. He is presently co-editoring a book on nanofabrication with focused electron and ion beams which will be published in 2010. He wants to develop this maskless, minimally invasive, local direct write method to a mature nanotechnology platform together with industry and research partners.
