Christelle Saout obtained her PH.D. in biology in 2000 at the University of Brest (France) with a thesis on reproductive physiology of scallops. She worked as postdoctoral fellow in molecular biology at the University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain) and the University of Rutgers (USA). She is currently involved in the management of Nanotoxico which is an interdisciplinary platform including chemists, physicists, biologists and pharmacists whose joint effort allows the development of toxicity assays for nanomaterial regulatory puposes. Particular attention is given to in vitro testing assays in order to comply with new EU policies on cosmetics (Council directive 2003/15/EC) and chemicals (REACH) that promote the use of alternative methods to animal testing.
