Professor at the Unversidad Politécnica de Madrid since 1970, he leads the Instituto de Energía Solar, he founded in 1979. He invented the bifacial cell in 1976 and in 1982 he founded Isofotón a solar cell company with a turnover of 300 million € in 2007. In 1997 he proposed the intermediate band solar cell. Today more than twenty centres worldwide have published on this topic in (ISI) registered journals. He is the recipient of several important prizes and distinctions.
