Nikolai Ledentsov (1959) graduated from the Electrical Engineering Institute in Leningrad in 1982 and the same year joined the Abraham F. Ioffe Institute of Physics and Technology of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS).
He received Degrees of Candidate (PhD) and Doctor of Sciences in Physics and Mathematics in 1987 and 1994, respectively. In 1992 he became Professor (Full Professor, 1994) at the Electrical Engineering University of St. Petersburg. Since 2005 he is Full Professor at the A.F. Ioffe Institute. Prof. Ledentsov is Member of the Scientific Councils of the A.F. Ioffe Institute and the Center for Education and Science of the RAS. He is Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences (1997). In 1998 he became DAAD Visiting Professor (1998-2002) and in 2003-2006 Mercator Professor at the TU Berlin. Prof. Ledentsov is Fellow of the Institute of Physics.
Prof. Ledentsov has authored more than 650 papers, 14 patents, and three monographs.
He is awarded with
- Young Scientist Award of the International Symposium on Compound Semiconductors for "pioneering and outstanding contributions to the development of physics and MBE growth of InGaAs-GaAs quantum dot structures and quantum dot lasers" (1996),
- Russian State Prize for Science and Technology (2001),
- Prize of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences for outstanding scientific achievements (2002),
and other awards and recognitions.
The main interests of Prof. Ledentsov are in the fields of physics and of nanotechnology and nanotechnology-based optoelectronic devices. Prof. Ledentsov founded three companies. He is presently General Manager of VI-Systems GmbH, Berlin.
