Floros

Dr. Floros received his Ph.D. from the University of Georgia, and a combined BS/MS degree from the Agricultural University of Athens – Greece, all in food science and technology. He worked in the food processing industry, was on the faculty at Purdue University where he received tenure and achieved the rank of Professor of Food Process Engineering and Packaging, and since 2000 he has been leading the Department of Food Science at the Pennsylvania State University.
Dr. Floros has had experience in: managing and leading industrial organizations, academic units, and scientific associations; conducting and directing applied and basic research; communicating research results through publications, presentations and public speaking; teaching undergraduate students, graduate students and other professionals; and transferring knowledge and technology through extension and outreach, professional service and consulting. He is an ESCOP/ACOP Leadership Program Fellow, participated in numerous academic leadership programs by the American Council on Education and executive management programs at Penn State, and he is currently a Fellow of the Food Systems Leadership Institute, and President of the Institute of Food Technologists.
Dr. Floros has published more than 170 refereed articles, research abstracts, book chapters and other publications, has presented more than 200 research papers or invited lectures, and has received numerous awards and professional honors through out his career. He is or has been a member of the American Society of Agricultural Engineers (ASAE), the American Society for Quality Control (ASQC), the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), the Society of Plastic Engineers (SPE), and the honorary scientific societies of Phi Tau Sigma and Sigma Xi.
