Pasi Kankaanpää

Pasi Kankaanpää is a cell biologist, specializing in advanced bioimaging and its development since 2001. He was among the first in the Nordic countries to conduct elaborate four dimensional confocal microscopy of living cells, and has later initiated a unique software project to solve some of the major problems in bioimaging. In 2006, his team released BioImageXD, new open source software for multidimensional scientific image post-processing. The software is among the most versatile available, and has received considerable attention worldwide. Kankaanpää is the design lead of its rapidly expanding, multidisciplinary development team. Kankaanpää's interests include the cellular internalization processes of biological nano particles, such as viruses and biomolecules. He is involved in a recently started long term project to develop drug delivering nano particles with the help of BioImageXD. He currently works on his PhD at the University of Turku, Finland.
