Markku Maula
Dr. Markku Maula is Professor of Venture Capital at Helsinki University of Technology, Institute of Strategy and International Business. His research interests focus on value creation related issues in business strategy and corporate finance with a particular focus on venture capital and private equity, technology-based new firms, corporate venturing, and innovation policy. He has lead several research projects on the internationalization of the venture capital and private equity industries, various forms of external corporate venturing, as well as public policy to develop venture capital markets. His research has been published or accepted to be published in several leading international journals on entrepreneurship and venture capital including Journal of Business Venturing, Entrepreneurship Theory & Practice, Research Policy, Small Business Economics, Venture Capital: International Journal of Entrepreneurial Finance, and European Management Review. He has also received several international awards for outstanding scholarship. He is only the second scholar in Europe to win the Heizer Award from the Academy of Management for the best doctoral dissertation in the field of new enterprise development. He has also been awarded with his co-authors the McKinsey & Company Best Conference Paper Prize Honorable Mention (2000), the Stevens Institute of Technology Wesley J. Howe Award for Excellence in Research on the Topic of Corporate Entrepreneurship (2003) and The Haynes Prize for the Best Paper Award (2004). In addition to his research and teaching roles, he has acted as an advisor to firms and government agencies in various issues related to venture capital, corporate venturing, and innovation policy.NTNE 2007
