Speaker details
János Szépvölgyi
Dr. János Szépvölgyi is Full Professor at Pannon University, Veszprém, Hungary. He has been serving as director of the Institute of Materials and Environmental Chemistry, Chemical Research Center of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences since 1994. Dr. Szépvölgyi received his MSc and PhD degrees in Chemical Engineering from the Veszprém University, Hungary in 1968 and 1993, respectively. During his professional carrier, he held various academic and industrial positions in Hungary. In 1988 he started the research in plasma chemistry which focused on the application of RF thermal plasmas for materials synthesis and processing on the one hand and for environmental protection on the other. He is involved in particular research even now. The main goal of his research in materials synthesis and processing is to establish correlations among composition, microstructure, properties and conditions of thermal plasma synthesis for different models such as nanosized ceramics and metallic powders, fullerenes, ferrites, catalysts etc. In environmental chemistry he focuses on studying the decomposition of hazardous inorganic and organic materials and their simultaneous transformation into valuable products in thermal plasma conditions. In both fields he devotes special attention to understanding basic phenomena and to applying the new knowledge in development of new processing technologies. Dr. Szépvölgyi is member and functionary of several Hungarian and international professional organizations and editorial boards. He holds more than 30 patents and published more than 150 papers in different fields of chemical engineering, plasma chemistry, materials science and environmental chemistry.NTNE 2007
