The interdisciplinary Nanoscience Center (iNANO) was founded in January 2002 at the University of Aarhus, Denmark. The center was established through a collaboration of research groups at the Institute of Physics and Astronomy, Department of Chemistry, Department of Molecular Biology, and Institute for Biological Sciences. Already from the start there was established close links to several associated research groups at the Department of Health Sciences, Aarhus University, and from 2003 iNANO also includes a number of research groups at the Faculty of Science at Aalborg University.
The center fosters interdisciplinary research and education in the area of nanoscience and nanotechnology, building upon the research and teaching competencies of the respective participants. The participating research groups interact and cooperate in a horizontal network organization, governed by and internal board as well as the iNANO board with members from leading industries in Denmark as well as University leaders.
