Saudi Aramco Nanotechnology Quest
October 01, 2009 (Nanotech Europe 2009, Berlin, Germany)
Owned by the Saudi Arabian Government, Saudi Aramco is a fully-integrated, global petroleum enterprise, and a world leader in exploration and producing, refining, distribution, shipping and marketing. The company manages proven reserves of 260 billion barrels of oil and manages the fourth-largest gas reserves in the world, 263 trillion cubic feet.
Scientists and professionals at the company’s EXPEC Advanced Research Center (EXPEC ARC) are involved in breakthrough technologies to increase oil and gas production from Saudi reservoirs several kilometers below the surface. EXPEC ARC has been at the forefront in leveraging micro- and nanotechnologies to sustain a secure energy source for the future. Specific areas of interest include: exploration, drilling, reservoir characterization, mapping and detecting various subsurface fluids, improved/enhanced oil recovery, and production.
EXPEC ARC is seeking to fund research proposals in nanotechnology that allow for demonstrable advances in upstream E&P operations with particluar interest in reservoir in-situ sensing and intervention. Large applied-research initiatives with clearly defined short-term milestones are encouraged.
At the Nanotech Europe 2009 Conference in Berlin, we are hosting a per-invitation forum on October 1. During this event, EXPEC ARC professionals will outline, in a series of presentations, the exciting areas where micro- and nanotechnology applications are of interest to our field of operation. This is your unique opportunity to join us, and other leading researchers and professionals, in a truly unique forum to share ideas, gain privileged insights into Saudi Aramco’s reservoirs and operations, and explore possibilities for collaboration.
Quest format and procedure
1. Registration: Nanotechnology providers/researchers may pre-register with the organizers of Nanotech Europe 2009 for consideration. The preregistration will require a brief statement (100 words or less) on research and/or technology activities of relevance to the topic of interest as per the attachments. The statement must be made by July 19, 2009. Respondents will be informed by July 30 if they are invited to this event. All participants of the Nanotechnology Quest are required to register also to Nanotech Europe 2009 (discounted price 590 EUR).
2. EXPEC ARC Challenges: Invitees to the Quest will have an opportunity to meet with professionals from Saudi Aramco’s EXPEC ARC to better understand their needs and requirements. During this session, EXPEC ARC professionals will outline, in a series of presentations, exciting areas where nanotechnology applications may prove useful to the petroleum industry.
3. Selective Presentations: A number of attendees will be given the opportunity to highlight their research areas and better demonstrate their capabilities and showcase the research and/or technology that they believe may help solve some of the challenges in the area of reservoir in-situ sensing and intervention.
2. Selection notification by July 30, 2009. All participants of the Nanotechnology Quest are required to register also to Nanotech Europe 2009 (discounted price 590 EUR).
